Write Well, Live Well
I think that writing and reading are two of the best activities in life (as you’re here I’m going to take a wild guess that you agree)
BUT…
they do come with one teeny, tiny drawback… they involve a whole lot of sitting, which can grow into a BIG problem. When you throw in the fact that writing can be pretty solitary (and that we writers can experience a tonne of self-doubt) you’ve got yourself the potential for a physical and mental downward spiral.
Wouldn’t it be great if there was something you could do
to take care of your physical health and mental wellbeing
AND
boost your creativity too!
GOOD NEWS!
Yoga can do ALL of that…
Amit Ray, Yoga The Science of Well-Being
“Yoga is bringing fitness in body, calmness in mind, kindness in heart and awareness in life.”
As a qualified yoga teacher and writer, I know how beneficial yoga can be.
When I decided I wanted to concentrate fully on my writing I really went for it. I spent several hours each day in my chair typing away, and if I wasn’t writing I was reading or studying more about writing. It was great. Over several months, I completed a short writing course and then wrote a rough draft of a new story…
and I put on weight, had terrible back pain, and my perimenopause symptoms increased, as did my already chronic headaches. Not ideal at all!
While I had been focusing on my writing I had been neglecting my health. Sure, I still went for a walk each day but they were shorter than usual and my yoga practice was down to barely once a week.
And then, I tore my calf muscle and ended up on crutches for several weeks.
Once I could walk properly again, I made my way back to my yoga mat and began to rebuild my health one breath at a time.
I realised I couldn’t go back to the way I had been writing before. I still wanted a writing life but I needed a healthy life too.
To Write Well I also needed to Live Well.
Now, I am back to a regular yoga practice, daily meditation
AND
daily writing.
I want other writers to avoid health issues and am excited to share yoga resources to support you in your writing life so you can be
CREATIVE + HEALTHY
