Key Developmental Milestones (2-4 Years)

  • Language Development: At this stage, preschoolers are rapidly expanding their vocabulary, starting to form simple sentences, and understanding basic grammar. They are also developing the ability to recognise letters and simple words.

  • Cognitive Development: They are also mastering early concepts like shapes, colours, and numbers. They are beginning to grasp the difference between reality and imagination, so stories that involve fantasy and pretend play become more engaging.

  • Emotional & Social Development: This is the stage where children begin to understand their own emotions and those of others. Books that highlight feelings (like happy, sad, scared) and social skills (sharing, taking turns) become especially useful.

  • Fine Motor Skills: Children may start to enjoy books with more interactive features like lift-the-flaps, pop-ups, or buttons that make sounds. These help them practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
